Think South: How We Got Six Men and Forty Dogs Across Antarctica
Chapter 12: The Children
“Will, listen to me. The kids were overwhelmingly supportive.” I told him about their amazing letters and pictures. One had written, ”I cried when I heard that Tim had died. He was my favorite. It must be hard to imagine finishing the expedition without him.” Another sent words of encouragement: “One time I had a dog who died, so I know how much it hurts. I know that it might even make you give up. But you have to find the courage to keep going. Please. I know you can do it.” Tim’s death was a learning experience for the kids, I assured him. Will quickly brushed away the tears.
