Chapter 8: Geoff

As much as I would like to think that Trans-Antarctica proved the power and universality of the individual, there were occasions when the individuals in question behaved true to their most frustrating cultural stereotypes. Geoff’s adherence to schedule and form was truly British, and the ship crew’s flexibility with same was very French. When the two came in direct conflict, as French and British sometimes do, it was inevitable that the others’ entire country took the blame.
